Description
The essential duties and responsibilities of the Computational Design Intern consist of, but are not limited to, the following. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions:
1. Sales/Business Development
Assist RFP process to reflect project strategies utilizing computational design to create visuals and animations that provide solutions.
Assist with sales presentations to customer base and new prospects.
2. Quality
Leverage computation to more accurately quantify and problem solve projects.
Help develop panel systems that are price competitive, productive and have cost certainty.
Participate and help develop process that creates plan in estimating and seamlessly transitions into preconstruction without having to start from beginning.
Assist and create industry leading proposals and presentation.
Assist in bridging the gaps that exist from 2d manual workflows to 3d automated workflows.
Digital deployment of system details to project conditions through parametric methods using computation.
Assist and create and help develop tools for analysis of systems.
Support development of pursuit and project plan during the bid and preconstruction phase.
3. Preconstruction
Leverage current innovations through the preconstruction process establishing KHS&S as an industry leader of design/planning automation and fabrication for install.
Involved in research and development of prefabrication and construction solutions and responsible for documenting and delivering computational methods for solutions
Support internal prefabrication capabilities development.
Support early design automation for digital fabrication process.
Participate in exploration and prototyping process.
Create or utilize existing computer programs, scripts, algorithms to automate 3d design.
Keep up to date of best computational design software/platforms, processes and educate team.
Write programs that are assets and devise algorithms to solve complex geometric problems on real construction projects.
4. Other Duties
Attend seminars/educational training programs, as required.
Perform any other related or unrelated, unassigned, unspecified duty that may be needed from time to time.
Requirements
Education: High school diploma or in pursuit of high school diploma.
Experience: No experience required but basic understanding of 3D modeling, computational design, and detailing is preferred.
Skills: Aptitude to read, interpret, and translate architectural, structural, MEP, and vendor shop drawings. Awareness of architectural and construction details, means & methods, and building codes. High attention to detail, aptitude for learning new things and must be able to work under pressure.
Physical: Includes sitting, standing, reaching, walking; use of hands, arms, legs, and feet. Must be able to see and hear (with mechanical assistance if necessary) sufficient to understand and comprehend individual one-on-one conversations. Must be able to climb scaffolding, ladder, or other onsite obstacle.
Communication: Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently. Ability to communicate effectively and positively with employees.
Computer: Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Beginning knowledge of Rhino, Grasshopper, Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and Bluebeam.
Summary
Participate in and assist with the process and capture of work, that creates a seamless transition into preconstruction for the fabrication of panels and complex geometry, while conducting yourself in a manner consistent with KHS&S core ideology.
