Description
The essential duties and responsibilities of the Controller for KHS&S Group of Companies consist of, but are not limited to, the following. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions:
1) Personnel
Train, supervise, and review accounting department staff.
Manage accounting department to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely manner.
2) General Accounting
Assist the CFO with overall financial operations including accounting, budgetary, audits, tax and other financial planning activities associated with KHS&S Group of Companies.
Assist the CFO to ensure KHS&S meets necessary financial regulatory and compliance requirements.
Assist the CFO in contributing financial expertise in the planning of new services that generate additional sources of profitable revenue.
Manage cost by continually seeking data that will identify opportunities and take action to eliminate non-value costs.
Coordinate the annual financial statement audits of the company and employee benefit plans (e.g., 401K and ESOP).
Manage the cash flow of company. Prepare and maintain models and forecasts that facilitate cash management.
Assist CFO with all aspects of our banking relationships and activities.
Oversee estimated payrolls for workers compensation, general liability, and auto insurance for annual insurance renewals.
Oversee corporate debt schedules and 1099 reporting.
Maintain burden analysis for workers compensation and employer taxes.
Establish and maintain internal controls within ERP.
3) Financial Statements/Reporting
Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year end close.
Develop and implement finance, accounting, billing, and auditing procedures.
Analyze financial statements (balance sheet, income statement and cash flow) to pinpoint potential weak areas.
4) Tax Returns
Monthly payment and reporting of any sales and use tax and annual property taxes.
Any other tax return issues that are not handled by the tax accountant.
5) Leadership
Provide financial leadership to managers, directors and officers that will create ownership of goals and encourage active participation in decisions that impact KHS&S.
Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct, and evaluate the organization’s fiscal function.
Ensure timely and accurate budget analyses and financial review that will assist senior management.
Enhance, develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the organization.
Continually improve the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues impacting their budgets.
Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision making issues affecting the organization, i.e., evaluation of potential alliances acquisitions and/or mergers.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by researching existing and new legislation, consulting with outside advisors. Advise management of actions and potential risk.
Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operational procedures.
6) Other Duties
Act as backup to Payroll Manager, as needed (Process payroll, submit quarterly payroll taxes, etc.)
Attend seminars/educational training programs as required.
Perform any other related or unrelated, unassigned, unspecified duty that may be needed from time to time.
Requirements
Education: A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is required. MBA, CPA, CMA, or CCIFP preferred but not required.
Experience: Required five years related experience in accounting and two years at supervisory level.
Skills: Proven ability to maintain accounting files and the ability to create and establish various reports for the Company. High attention to detail, aptitude for learning new things and must be able to work under pressure.
Physical: Includes sitting, standing, reaching, walking; use of hands, arms, legs, and feet. Must be able to see and hear (with mechanical assistance if necessary) sufficient to understand and comprehend individual one-on-one conversations.
Communication: Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently. Ability to communicate effectively and positively with customers, vendors, and employees.
Computer: Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and business analytics systems (Power BI).
Summary
Responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting and day-to-day accounting. Oversee development and maintenance of accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. Oversee all areas of accounting, while conducting yourself in a manner consistent with KHS&S Core Ideology.
