Position Responsibilities and Duties:
Prepare accurately and timely multi-state sales tax returns (Sales/use, business & occupation, gross receipts, property) with the proper backup supporting the reported exempt sale.
Partner with various departments (Estimating, Operations, Accounting) conduct sales tax research regarding the eligibility of sales tax rates, exemptions, rebates, credits, and other viable programs
Performs various audit and detection functions to facilitate the correction of taxpayer reporting errors
Coordinates with business, corporate tax, and various state tax jurisdictions to make the necessary corrections. This includes all of the US states, certain localities within the US, and Canadian Federal and provinces
Preparation of monthly and quarterly sales tax returns from sales journals under limited supervision
Review all exemption certificates for compliance with state regulations
File all required registrations & permits in various jurisdictions
Maintain a thorough understanding of sales tax laws, knowledge of Solar tax exemptions, and compliance to procedures to be established
Communicate to all respective departments our sales tax policy
Assistance in sales tax audits and preparation of tax adjustments
Review contracts to ensure the use of proper tax language based on state
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or relevant field
Excellent attention to detail, strong research & communication skills
Competent in MS office products, CMIC, RAMCO, or other construction management & service software
Understanding of construction, customs, and cross border taxation rules.
3+ years’ experience in with Multi-State Sales and use tax accounting, preferably in construction
Strong accounting foundation and understanding of US accounting principles
Must be well organized, with the ability to timely meet deadlines with accuracy and efficiency
