Description
The essential duties and responsibilities of the Technical Design Coordinator consist of, but are not limited to, the following. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions:
1. Personnel:
Direct, coordinate and provide technical guidance to Construction Design staff on assigned projects.
Provide technical guidance and training to Operations staff in basic use of design tools, models and documentation for the purpose of field use during construction.
Facilitate training within the department on KHS&S product lines.
2. Project Pursuit:
Ability to provide CD scope of work estimates, as needed during project pursuits.
Represent KHS&S at industry, community and customer events.
3. Project Production:
Oversee and prepare project modeling, drafting and coordination documents on a daily basis. Direct assigned production staff modeling, drafting, coordination and other tasks, based on skills and priorities. Coordinate production staff workload with Manager, Construction Design.
Prepare 3D Coordination Model based on project’s architectural, engineering, and supplemental documents. Review and incorporate architectural and engineering details, best construction practices, and Project Manager/Superintendent’s preferences.
Prepare/draft 2D Construction Shop Drawings for construction from sketches and mark-ups in a timely and accurate manner.
Coordinate 3D model with other trades per contract.
Identify issues involving architectural errors, constructability, and continuity of ratings. Work with project team to provide recommendations to resolve construction challenges.
Provide construction documents as required showing coordinated layout.
Develop and manage project schedules for design and coordination activities and ensure they are in alignment with submittal, procurement and construction schedules. Report project progress and expected date of completion to Manager, Construction Design.
Develop and manage project budgets for design and coordination activities. Report project progress and expected cost at completion to Manager, Construction Design.
4. Project Coordination and Execution:
Meet with General Contractors, Project Designers, Architects, Engineers, Consultants, Building Officials, Inspectors, Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen, as required, to identify, coordinate, resolve and document design issues.
Prepare, review and distribute project design coordination status, issues logs, and action plans.
Prepare and coordinate internal and external project design coordination communications.
Manage distribution of current project documentation.
Review and coordinate project design and coordination with Estimating.
Review scope and coordinate design documentation with consultants working with project team(s).
Review design documentation with Constructability Coordinator for best practice means and method to ensure efficiency and productivity during construction.
Review and coordinate proposed project fire rated assemblies (UL/EJ) with Operations Teams and Project Designers.
Review and provide input in project contracts alongside estimating and operations teams at the beginning of the awarded projects, as needed.
5. Quality Control:
Review all project modeling, drafting and coordination documents prior to release. Verify that documents conform to KHS&S standards and are accurate and complete.
Assist in developing and maintaining KHS&S Standards manual and associated processes.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, related field or 5 years’ experience working under the supervision of a Licensed Architect, preferred not required. Completion of certificate program in drafting from an accredited school or an Associate’s degree in Architecture or related field preferred.
Experience: Required 5 years related experience within the commercial light gauge framing and drywall industry in a senior drafting role.
Skills: intermediate critical thinking and problem solving abilities. Proven leadership and strategic planning skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to read, interpret, and translate architectural, structural, MEP, and vendor shop drawings. Extensive knowledge of architectural and construction details, means & methods, and building codes. Able to devise creative solutions for software and construction issues and conceptualize in 3D. High attention to detail, aptitude for learning new things and must be able to work under pressure.
Physical: Includes sitting, standing, reaching, walking; use of hands, arms, legs, and feet. Must be able to see and hear (with mechanical assistance if necessary) sufficient to understand and comprehend individual one-on-one conversations.
Communication: Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently. Ability to communicate effectively and positively with customers, vendors and employees.
Computer: Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Smartsheet or other task/scheduling software. Mastery of Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks and Bluebeam in relation to commercial light gauge framing and drywall. Ability to train others on these software programs.
Summary
Lead, direct, and coordinate Construction Design project efforts to deliver project design coordination, construction solutions and field construction/shop drawing documentation while conducting yourself in a manner consistent with KHS&S core ideology.
