The Vice President of Risk Management represents the company as an industry expert and will partner with Senior Leadership to ensure the mitigation of risk at all levels and develop a culture of transparency and accountability through reinforcement of all risk and safety programs.
This role is a strategic partner with Executive and Operational leadership and will understand their businesses, challenges, and opportunities. They will collaboratively develop all activities to manage and improve safety and regulatory compliance. While 80% of this role will require leadership of the Risk team, it will also require direct interaction, collaboration, and support in working with our safety professional, who provide both front-line and regional consultation and support. The right candidate will lead with the broader risk management organization, and aid with formulating general safety policies and procedures to be followed by the company to achieve best in class performance.

Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees and developing personal growth opportunities. Accomplishes staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees. Plans, monitors, and appraises job results. Conducts training.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
Conducts risk assessments, collecting and analyzing historical loss information, documentation, statistics, reports, and market trends.
Recommends and implements risk management solutions such as insurance, alternative risk financing programs, safety and security policies, business continuity plans, or recovery measures.
Continuously maintains, and improves upon, all internal Risk Management Information Systems, including the development and oversite of report libraries.
Reviews and analyzes metrics and data such as cash flow, inventory, breakage, and employee activity that could uncover fraudulent behavior.
Drafts and presents risk reports and proposals to executive leadership and senior staff.
Draft, review and assess risk management policies and protocols; makes recommendations and implements modifications and improvements.
Responsible for leading the Workers’ Compensation team within the organization to develop and maintain robust claims reporting, monitoring and advocacy programs.
Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team and collaborates closely with operational and functional leadership regarding behavioral safety and organizational policies and practices.
Responsible for working directly with insurance broker partner and other representatives with gathering all policy renewal information, conducting renewal strategy meetings, presenting renewal options to executive leadership while coordinating timely renewals of all insurance programs.
Create, enforce, and update department policies and procedures as appropriate to maintain the operational safety of the company.
Review accident investigation findings, reviews, root cause analysis, and determines preventability in parallel with the safety team.
Creates a positive work environment and culture within the department, provides clear objectives and performance expectations for staff, conducts training, and career development.
Escalate regulatory issues to executive leadership, as appropriate.
Develop and manage department forecasts and budgets.
Establishes policies and procedures to identify and address risks in the organization’s services and departments.
Performs other duties as directed.

Required Skills/Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to manage different types of policies and programs including casualty, property, auto liability, etc.
Thorough understanding of policies and best practices of risk management.
Strong interpersonal skills and with experience presenting to ownership and operational entities.
Demonstrated results in establishing strategic goals and metrics for measuring success.
Proven track record as a manager leading change, implementing solutions, and sustaining results.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent mathematical and critical thinking skills.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related RMIS software to prepare reports and policies.
Education and Experience:
At least five years of experience at a vice president level leading a risk management program.
Bachelor’s Degree
Experience in in a company whose major business is commercial trucking is preferred.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in leading, building, developing, and managing collaborative teams.
Excellent executive presence with strong leadership, collaboration, analytical, influential, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Must be a strategic thinker who is results-oriented with the ability to drive continuous improvement within the Safety organization as well as the overall organization.
Must be able to travel.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
